Music has been questioned about its relevance and value so far this century, since, with the new wave of rhythms, singers and composers, the more traditional generations see the new currents of music as superficial and without soul or heart. However, we cannot let this nonsense make us forget that music has functioned as a cultural benchmark of social expression that has made great disagreements visible at different times, because through music, the soul and passion of its performers can convey the greatest disagreements. But why is music chosen as a privileged form of expression for nonconformism? The answer is because handling an auditory language facilitates a type of communication, a faster and more direct exchange of ideas. In this sense, music and other forms of artistic expression, narrative has been used as a means of denunciation by bringing into play imaginaries and the experiences of their authors. An example of this is Taylor Swift, the artist who exposes critiques of american society in her lyrics. The artist, born in West Reading, Pennsylvania, grew up in a purely conservative environment. Since she was a child, she has participated in country music that collects stereotypes related to gender roles and archetypes that have been formed and developed over the years. However, the public image of Taylor Swift as an artist and as a person has undergone various transformations that have been accompanied by an artistic representation. Those events doubtlessly left their marks and notably shaped Taylor 's opinions. Throughout her life, Taylor Swift has faced various unavoidable criticisms in the music industry which has contributed to her understanding of social inequality and laid the foundations for her personal conceptions that have changed through the years. Her insights are not only intriguing, but also extraordinarily thought provoking, as many of the issues she describes are still unresolved. The fight for equality and gender equity are one of the most pressing problems in the world today. In her songs, the singer-songwriter manages to give a broad vision of injustices experienced by different people due to current issues, delving into them and proposing changes and petitions that, applied, could greatly benefit the population. Therefore, an investigation into her work is beneficial for any politically motivated person. On top of that, the audience gets a glimpse into the personal experiences and development of a renowned artist, who narrates her intriguing ideas in an honest way, based on her life experiences. Therefore, the best approach to answer the essay's research question, which is the following: To what extent do Taylor Swift's songs reflect her desire for political change in the USA?, seems to be through a close examination of a variety of three of her songs You Need to Calm Down, The Man and Only the Young. The analysis of its content will be carried out based on the personal life of the artist, supported by the documentary Miss Americana, that offers a more personal and vulnerable look at the singer.
