dc.description.abstract“We need to live in a culture that values and respects and looks up to and idolizes women as much as men.” (Emma Watson, 2017). Gender equality has been gaining importance; with the expansion of the ideology where women are as important as men, establishing that neither genre should be limited in their way of thinking or acting because of stereotypes. Anyways, this wasn’t always like this: long ago, people lived worrying about meeting these expectations, especially women. It is important to investigate when certain demonstrations against these social stereotypes began; especially those that contributed to changing the role of women in society. An important manifestation occurred in 1813, with the book "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen. This literary work presented a revolutionary ideology, showing a controversial representation of the effect that stereotypes had on people's lives; highlighting a constant fight against them. To answer the question “How did the social stereotypes in England at the beginning of the XIX century influence the perspective of the author Jane Austen when creating the main characters of the book Pride and Prejudice?” I have divided this work in three chapters; containing information about the context, an analysis of some characters and demonstrating the stereotypes' influence in the author’s point of view and how they led her to create diverse personalities, representing a revolutionary movement. To achieve this, I have relied on my own interpretation of each character as well as in different sources of information: A primary source is the book itself; and my secondary sources are research works about similar topics, having authors like Deborah Aschkenes, Elena Cossar, Kathryn Hughes, Renate Mares, among others.
