Resumen : The reason I do this investigation is because I watched the film Selma, in which I was able to see a small extract of Martin Luther King's speech, “I have a dream”. For me, these words were attractive, since I was always interested in equality of human rights. I started looking for more of him, about the beginning of why he made that speech. The topic is the impact of Martin Luther King. My objective of this extended essay is to analyze the impact of Martin Luther King's speech, which was delivered at the end of March in Washington on August 28, 1963. Those years were very turbulent times in the United States. The question that I will develop is: What is the ideological impact of the speech of Marín Luther King on the American society in the 1960s? The hero of peace was born in 1929 in Atlanta and died in 1968 in Memphis. 1963 is the date which all African Americans were waiting for, the march to Washington D. C began at the Lincoln memorial, Martin Luther King decided that this revolution was without vile in order to give justice and obtain their rights like white citizens, this was the right way for African Americans. For this reason, I follow the qualitative method by the analysis of primary sources. In the first chapter I will develop the historical social context of that time; it is important to mention the civil rights movement and segregation at the time. Why start with the context? Because, we have first to know the context of how Martin Luther King grew up and what was around him, what was happening at that time for the revolution to start. In the second chapter, I will analyze the ideas of King's speech and the impact on the mentality of the American society , for which I will use my primary sources. On the third chapter I will deal with the consequences due to the King's speech, among them, the change of mentality in American society and the feeling of hope. At the end I will present my conclusions. The difficulties I had was that at the beginning, I did not know how to start my work, but later I realized that the context of Martin Luther King is the beginning of how this character in history could carry out a revolution and help people African American. In my successes, when I imagined what the structure of my research would be like, I could see what my results would be like and that it was also most important to answer my initial question.
